A father has been jailed for life for gang-raping his nine-year-old daughter.
The man got the girl drunk and attacked her with a friend in India.
His accomplice was handed a 12-year prison term.
Sentencing
the pair at a court in Delhi, Judge Gautam Manan said: 'Children are
entitled to expect the best from their parents, in terms of care and
parental love, that they can possibly receive.
'But the convict gave her daughter such a betrayal of faith of relationship that would really be difficult for her to forget.'
A complaint was initially lodged by the victim's mother against her husband and his accomplice in May 2012, it was reported by The Press Trust of India.
The
judge said the 'accused, despite being the father of the victim, has
not only sexually assaulted her but also allowed another boy to sexually
abuse his daughter.'
The
father, who has not been named, and his accomplice, Akash, 20, were
also fined Rs 5,000 (£50) each and ordered to pay the victim Rs 100,000
(£970) in compensation.
'The
concept of welfare and well-being of children is basic for any
civilised society and this has a direct bearing on the state of health
and well-being of the entire community, its growth and development,' the
court said.
The pair were convicted based on testimony from the victim and a medical report which showed she had been raped.
'In
the present case, the victim has been consistent on the material
particulars with regard to the incident of sexual assault on her,' the
report said.
